How Relay Foods is Green
Relay’s operations are designed to be far easier on the environment than any other method of shopping. Relay reduces the carbon footprint of its vendors by allowing a broad network of local farmers to reach a wide market without leaving the farm. Relay increases the efficiency of its customers by doing the shopping for many customers in one trip (imagine how efficient you’d be if you did the shopping for your entire apartment building in one trip!). A model of Relay built by MIT’s Center for Transportation and Logistics completed in December 2010 suggested that due to these factors Relay’s model was already having a positive impact on greenhouse gas emissions in the market studied (Charlottesville, VA).
