The Green Rush is a signature Live Green event that embodies everything we’re about: making eco-friendly living accessible and fun. This year, we're proud to co-present the Green Rush with Clean Currents, DC's local, independent green energy company.

Teams of 2 - 5 people explore DC, complete challenges, and answer clues to earn as many points as possible. The highest-scoring team will be crowned Green Rush 2012 Champions and win the $1,000 grand prize. Fear not, if you don’t walk away with the gold, there’s still a chance to score more. Additional prizes include:

 

  • Green Spirit Award: one-year supply of delicious Honest Tea to the team that demonstrates the greenest spirit through team name, costume, and enthusiasm during the Green Rush
  • Orange you Green Award: The team that wins the Orange You Green challenge will be rewarded with $250 in gift certificates to Citrus Aromas for an eco-friendly home cleaning
  • Mow Down Throw Down Award: The top 2 teams in the Mow Down Throw Down challenge will each receive a push-power lawn mower from Razarsharp to fulfill all your urban gardening hopes and dreams
  • Foodie Award: Teams that indulge in samples at all restaurants participating in the Green Rush will be added to a raffle to win $30 gift certificates to Pete’s Apizza (2 available) or a $100 gift certificate to Cafe Green
  • Clean Currents Swag Bag: All teams with a completed and 100% correct Clean Currents Crossword Puzzle (in their clue packet) will be entered into a raffle. One lucky team will take home a bag full of goodies from our favorite wind energy provider.



Registration


The Green Rush is a team event for groups of 2 - 5 people. However, you will register on an individual basis. Your team can be a mix of Live Green members and non-members, just be sure to have your team name ready when you sign up. We expect this event to sell out.

Price schedule:
First 50 participants: $15 members/$20 non-members
Regular: $25 members/$35 non-members

What to expect on April 21st

 

Check-in: Noon - 2pm at Logan Circle. Registration time slots will be assigned based on team name and emailed to you prior to April 21st.

The Green Rush starts at exactly 2:30pm.  You’ll have 3 hours to collect as many points as possible and meet us at the finish line and after party [18+] hosted by Repax at Liv (2001 11th St, NW). Teams that arrive more than 15 minutes late will be disqualified from winning the grand prize. But you can still party with us at Liv!


What to bring:

  • Comfortable clothing and sneakers - you’ll be running around. Oh, and the more creative, the better; you might just win the Green Spirit award!
  • Pen or pencil
  • Water
  • ID for the after party
  • Open mind & sense of adventure
  • Although not required, a smartphone will come in handy 

We suggest you leave at home anything you don’t feel like carrying around all day.

 
 
Green Rush Official Rules
 
  1. Each team must have at least 2 but no more than 5 people.
  2. Teams may travel by foot or public transit only (bus or metro). Use of cars, bikes, cabs, motorcycles, etc. is prohibited.
  3. Teams cannot split up – you must stay together at all times. Any clue that requires a picture must have every team member in the picture
  4. Teams may not collaborate with other teams.
  5. Teams may not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct. This includes, but is not limited to, collecting more materials than you need, removing signs, or attempting to sabotage other teams.
  6. Obey all local laws, regulations, traffic laws. Participants are solely responsible for their actions and the consequences of those actions during the Green Rush.
  7. Allow Live Green permission to use and post Green Rush photos as we deem appropriate.
  8. The Green Spirit Award will be judged based on your team’s overall enthusiasm, costumes/ outfits, and the actions you perform for the specific clues that have a Smile next to them.
  9. Abide by the strict 3 hour time limit. All team members MUST be present at 5:30 at the after party [18+] at Liv (2001 11th St, NW). Team will be penalized if they are 5 minutes late, and will be disqualified is they are 15 minutes late.
  10. The team with the most points wins the $1,000 grand prize.
  11. In the event of a tie, there will be a lightning round game between the tied teams at the after party.
  12. The Green Rush is a rain or shine, non-refundable event.
  13. HAVE FUN! Choose your own adventure while learning all about DC’s eco-friendly treasures!

 

**All judging and scoring decisions made by Live Green are final. Live Green reserves the right to penalize or disqualify any team or participant as it sees fit.

What is included with my registration?

If we have a team of both Live Green members and non Live Green members, what price do we pay?
Each participant signs up individually, but your team can be mixed of members and non members. Be sure to sign up with your team name on the registration page to help us keep track of your team! Register here.

Do we need a team name?
Yes! The more creative the better.  That’s how we’ll identify you for registration, verify your scores for picture-based clues, and find out if you win!

Is the Green Rush family friendly?
Yes! The event is a great way to spend time together as a family and to teach your children that being eco-friendly is fun, easy, and affordable. However, the after party is 18 and over.

What should we wear?
We recommend that you wear something that will be comfortable for physical activity. You will be running around DC to complete challenges – both mental and physical. Don’t forget that we are awarding a prize to the team with the most creative (and most “green”) outfit!

Do we need a digital camera?
Nope! The clue stations that involve pictures will have volunteers to take the photos for you. That said, having a camera or cameraphone is good idea for documenting your fun day, and you are welcome to bring one.

Can I use a smart phone with internet to find answers?
Yes, you sure can!

How do we know where to go?
You will receive a map with clues to your destinations at the start of the Green Rush.

How do we win?
The Green Rush designates a certain number of points for each activity. The team that collects the most points in the 3 hour time limit wins!  Any ties will be broken by a lightning round game at the after party. Additionally, we give out the Green Spirit Award to the team with the best costume and best Green Spirit!

What if we don’t get to the finish line by 5:30?
Teams that arrive at the finish line location after 5:30 will have points deducted from their total.  If your team arrives after 5:45 pm, you will be disqualified from winning our fabulous prizes.

What do we win?
The team that earns the most points in the 3 hour time limit will win a $1,000 grand prize. The Green Spirit Award winners will win a year’s worth supply of Honest Tea. There will be other great prizes for the best performing team at certain clue stations as well.
